I remember reading a couple of weeks ago in the newspaper about a fellow who got 96 PMPG (or people MPG) by commuting with 8 people in his 12 MPG Suburban. Interesting concept, I like it!
Anyway in today's Raleigh paper there were several Eco-Wankers (obviously who owned a Toyota Prius or similar poser eco mobile) who were shaming him for driving such a bad, evil, american car. One even said they get 200 PMPG when they carry 4 people in their little car. Of course, these Opiates failed to point out that to carry 8 people it would take two of their little cars, dropping their total “MPG” in half. What a joke.
I wonder if any of these owners of the eco-wondercar know what they are going to do with their 300 lb battery pack when it wears out. What? Didn't they tell you about that at the dealer? So much for being “green”.
Now, before you fire up the blow torch on me, I am not against highly efficient cars per se-The Prius in particular is very cool technology, it was SAE (Soc. Automotive Engineers) Car of the Year in 2001. What BURNS ME UP is some of the holier than thou folks who drive them. Almost worse than them are the car companies (Acura for one) that are using Hybrid technology to increase power rather than fuel mileage. Talk about your eco-posers!
Much of the fuel economy gains of a hybrid vehicle comes from turning off the engine when stopped. So, if you want to be truly green, and also save some gas money, all you need to do is TURN YOUR CAR OFF instead of lettting it idle. Wow, what a concept.
It should be interesting to see where these hybrids are in 5 years……I think other, better technology such as gasoline direct injection (diesel too)is on the way that will make hybrids a thing of the past. Ho Ho Ho!
