I _so_ miss the old Squeeze the Pulp!! What am I going to do without Weaverguy??

David Richter, %2008/%01/%18 %10:%Jan:

John, great letter to the editor. However, are you sure you wrote it? Sounds like a different person. :-)

However, I am sure we will get the old JK back.. and a good thing.

John K, %2008/%01/%18 %19:%Jan:

Thanks, Mister R. Let's hope it works. The more folks that raise a voice the better, they need to know how many people are watching and care about this. I think it could be a huge item at the next elections.

I feel very passionately about the issue, in case you can't tell. But don't worry, I have plenty of flame left in me….the supply of fuel is limitless!!!!

Good to hear from you, hope all is well in the “deep south”.

Neloa Jones, %2008/%01/%21 %20:%Jan:

John, once again (even without Paul F.), I have laughed for five minutes. I love the mobile storage unit with the flame. As for me, I've decided just to toss my garbage over the fence to the landfill–it saves me gas, you know, not having to drive all the way around to Eubanks just to have the tractors return the garbage to my backyard anyway.

David Richter, %2008/%01/%22 %10:%Jan:

Neloa, I am still laughing. I think that the BOCC should award you “Greenest Orange County Resident” of the month for all that gas you are saving. Of course Mr. Carey might put a dumpster on the other side of the fence and call it a transfer station.

John K, %2008/%01/%22 %04:%Jan:

Glad to oblige! Have gas, will flame! I do _so_ miss Paul “gas bag” Falduto, Orange Democrat extraordinaire, almost as much as Joe Cowpiesky and Frank “breeder” Papa!!! Tears are welling up in my eyes just thinking about it.

When you gonna take a look at the southern part of the county ? We are in the middle of the deepest drought in decads and the town is putting in a natural turf soccer field ? http://www.townofchapelhill.org/index.asp?nid=1339

What about all this talk about conserving water ? why not artifical turf ? NO WATER REQUIRED !

http://www.mass.gov/envir/ota/events/pdf/water_conference_presentations/kissida_john_recreation_water_demands.pdf

John K, %2008/%02/%09 %13:%Feb:

Well done, well_done! Thanks for the comment.

Artificial turf is an interesting idea- it looks like the 10 year cost is about 50% higher but it appears not to use water…..of course there are some leagues that require the artificial stuff to be watered to reduce skin burns, etc. Maybe they can go somewhere else. As a taxpayer, I want to save money wherever possible.

It sure seems to me that for a RECREATIONAL ie non professional field it would suffice to put down some sort of very hardy grass and just not water it at all. I am no horticulturist but when I was a kid and played soccer in Arlington VA, our fields had no watering whatsovever. Sometimes they were hard as a rock and bare, sometimes they had grass on them, sometimes they were a big mud hole.

In spite of this we still had a good time, and it sure did not seem like there were a lot of injuries.

Sounds like Chapel Hill has one of two problems: Their State flag is upside down and they think it reads “to seem rather than be” or else they stand on their heads a lot.

I wish they were smarter about such things. Sometimes they set the bar too high. Why do we need perfect recreational fields? If they are not, don't you think folks will still use them? Will they ask for their money back on a free field?

As you remember, we had a long running thread about Global Warming. The above link is quite entertaining and hits on something I have believed (and tried to make clear to WG) for a long time. The sun (Sol) is the be all and end all for global temps.

John K, %2008/%02/%09 %15:%Feb:

Very Nice, JJ- thanks for sharing that.

I sometimes get feedback that I am anti-earth or anti-environment etc just because I believe that global warming, if it exists (I am not convinced) is not something humans can do anything about.

The earth is too big and complex to really “measure its temperature” and draw conclusions. Likewise it is too big and complex to accurately model with a computer to predict the future of the earth's climate.

While it does not make for snappy headlines or fear mongering movies, that is what I really believe to be true.

If one really wants to make a difference then one should reduce his or her footprint on the earth- not by sending money to Al Gore and company, but by turning off your lights and finding other ways to live more efficiently. That is truly the only way to make a difference. Taking out full page ads like NC WARN did about the Duke coal plant and posting half truths and fear inducing statements does zilch, nada, nil etc for the planet.

Whew!

Pulp Master, back in the day when you played soccer!

Wow, when I think about that imagery, it only comes to me in black and white. I bet there are kids living close to the new Southern Community Park that will want to kick the ball around on the and create there own memory. But they will have to compete for use of the fields from the commercial business that runs the local leagues.

Although, I may have spoken to soon because if an irrigation system was not put in then this is a non issue. And I understand this park was planned before the drought really got going.

I guess I better do more homework before I continue on this rant.

But my guess is once the fields are open and available to the commercial leagues; they will book the fields as much as they can. If the city elects to establish a field before they open up to the leagues and the field is over used and stressed due to low water … I wonder how much it will cost the taxpayers to renew the fields ?

The city should be looking at sharing the cost of the artificial turf with the leagues. But right now we do not want to see the city watering the grass !

Only time will tell and I some how I am not convince the town will do the right thing.

Well said, my friend! Yes, when I was a kid, we had a black and white TV……got a color one in the early 70's. Such simple times.

Donald Hartmann, %2008/%03/%06 %09:%Mar:

Dear Flaming A——,only kidding. Retired from fire dept. in Miami.Duke medical for my wife`s complex medical problems caused me to investigate your town for retirement. Would myself ,wife and golden retriever be part of the problem if we moved to your town? Don Hartmann

John K, %2008/%03/%08 %06:%Mar:

Dear Mr. H: I am glad you are considering relocation to the area. Duke Medical Center is a top notch place for getting care. I hope that your wife gets well soon.

Since you are retired, and do not sound like a “Trustafarian”, I cannot suggest that you move to Orange county. The houses are overpriced, taxes are amongst the highest in the State, etc. etc. and as you can see from these pages, many of the “progressive” locals have a “different” outlook on things.

I suggest you practice “safe leakage” and move into one of the fine areas just south of Orange County (Chatham County) or in one of the nice areas in Durham. Either of these will be less expensive to live in, since there are “for profit” businesses located there that pay “taxes”, which reduces the tax burden on homeowners (a concept utterly foreign to Orange Co.).

To supplement your retirement income, you could register your golden retriever at some fake Chapel Hill address and sell the attendance rights to someone with school age children who have been fooled into thinking that the Chapel Hill Schools are worth paying a lot extra for….you may need to rename your dog to accomplish this.

Thanks for the feedback, as a retired fireman, I am sure the heat from Cosmo is just like another day at the office!

Please tell all of your fire fighting brothers about our incendiary site: http://squeezethepulp.com I am sure they will be at home in our environs and laugh (not cry) at the silliness of the local scene, plus appreciate all the flames!
