What this County Needs is a Tax on Dumb!

Okay, so let me get this straight.

The county commissars have had since last summer to figure out if they wanted to list both options (local sales tax referendum and a local transfer tax referendum) on the upcoming November 2008 ballot or to list just one of these. This is Orange County so de rigeur they appoint a citizen commission to help study this momentous decision. This is Orange County, so de rigeur they pay no attention to their appointed commission. (They didn’t get their training in tax-exempt, non-profit Opie land for nothing, where the oxymoronic is simplified into the moronic.) This is Orange County so de rigeur they choose an alternative path at such a late hour that no one can respond.

Say this is sounding like the bogus trash transfer station site search that was so shameful (“we have to decide now, before it’s too late”), the commissars had to “find” more time to do another search. Look in that black bag again, maybe you’ll find more time inside there, along with the developer invitations to the Buckhorn EDD.

Now this survey will spend OVER HALF of the entire available county budget discretionary fund to find out what 26 OTHER COUNTIES asked their constituents about LAST NOVEMBER???

How can they say this with a straight face? Don't answer, please, I’ve got some leakage to deal with here.

Here’s a suggestion, commissars: why not both tax options on the upcoming ballot? How much more will the ink cost for a second question? Here’s a better suggestion, talk to county commissioners in counties dealing with the economy outside a state tax supported bubble, the world outside UNC Chapelboro?

Or, maybe we just need a “stupid tax”- to be levied upon those who make such silly, boneheaded moves as the BOCC on this issue. Break out your wallets, BOCC!!

It’s easy to be a beacon when others pay the light bill. Let me light your way!
