So now that the “gentrification” of downtown Carrboro is in full swing (having started with all those now complaining about gentrification), there is much talk about keeping the Carrboro “vibe” during the transformation.
This puzzles Cosmo. When I travel thru downtown Carrboro, I don't feel any vibe, unless, of course, the carburetors on my carbon loading motorcycle are out of synch.
So, Cosmo started thinking, “What are these sanctimonious wankers talking about?” They destroyed the sense of community of the neighborhoods around dense growth Pacifica and Winmore pet development projects without a pause.
Maybe they mean the “buzz” that the trustafarians get sipping their cheap wine at Weaver Street Market?
Maybe it's the buzzer on the Wendy's drive through? Or the traffic sensor at any of the numerous gas stations/mini marts that “define” the mill house vernacular of downtown Carrboro?
Maybe it's the beeping trucks that back up to the Harris Teeter in the heart of downtown? How about the whirring of the cement trucks leaving the mixing plant.
Or maybe they are referring to the rumbling of rail cars full of coal, headed to the UNC Cogen facility?
Hmmm… I think they are trying to say they want to keep downtown Carrboro “cool”. Cosmo sez ”fear not, poseur-progressives, as long as the KFC is there, the mojo is safe.”
Cosmo predicts that the new center of arts in Orange County will be Hillsborough. The timing is perfect, since the Arts Center and Cats Cradle are shutting down. Yes, they will reopen, but not before the center of narcissistic, artistic gravity has permanently shifted north.
When this happens, all the non-profit, latte sipping, bleeding heart types in Carrboro will have to buzz on up the road to get their fix! Talk about your glow ball warming, think of the carbon, baby!!!
WOOT!
