Cosmo just got a fresh load of carbon chains, what with the easing of the home heating market up north. Nothing like a good score of blue rhino! Hmmm let's see, what should I flame? Emboldened by a fresh “flammo” belt, there's plenty of content to browse in Cosmo’s favorite real estate advertiser and bird cage liner (Chapel Hill News) which just happens to be littering the impervious surfaces of Cosmo’s castle.
What a woot hoot! Chapelboro Cool-Aid drinkers have joined in a cumbayah circle singing the praises of former local Sierra Club president, county bathroom flush dictator, “three blind mice” Eubanks Road trash transfer expert, challenged graphic sign designer, and county commissioner candidate Bernadette Pelissier.
Let’s look at all the exciting reasons for voting for Ms. Pelissier.
Here’s one. Because she was an “Owassup”, “me donkey want water” board member, elected by political friends and with no engineering background, she can handle water supply issues.
Oh, Really? She did such a good job that we got to Stage 3 restrictions during the last drought. She did such a great job that Cane Creek Reservoir, unlike Raleigh and Durham reservoirs, is still at an all time low level. Why? Because OWASA, in its infinite wisdom, left a huge natural border around the reservoir built in a clay water-sucking area. The result? Rain soaks into the ground rather than running into the reservoir. Brilliant move, Ms. P.
Look, there’s another. She’s “for” affordable housing, as if there’s a candidate for “unaffordable hosing” (see Phictionary).
Oh, Really? How does being for the local transfer tax make housing more affordable? It doesn’t, particularly when she is for more growth that incurs more debt, thereby perpetuating the cycle of ever increasing property taxes. How does forcing homeowners to replace their toilets with low consumption ones when they sell their homes, as opposed to places like Cary that offer REBATES for efficient fixtures right now, not in the future, make housing more affordable? It doesn’t.
Can there be more reasons? Who could forget, she’s “for” the environment. As opposed to her opposition, Ms. Neloa Jones, who’s against the environment???
Oh, Really? Where was Ms. Pelissier on leading the debate on the Eubanks Road trash transfer station? AWOL. Where was she on leading the Sierra Club to discuss the environmental injustice issues of Rogers Road? AWOL. Crowned in the Sierra Club beauty kontest (see photo below), but still AWOL Has she even acknowledged that there has been an injustice? AWOL. That’s right, Ms. Pelissier is an eco-poseur. Silly me. It’s about feeling good in southern Orange, not doing good.
I hope that the citizens of Orange County have the sense not to elect another “insider, business as usual” person like Ms. Pelissier. We need someone with a more realistic and practical outlook, not another eco-poseur (see Phictionary.) The eco-poseurs and insiders have gotten us into the mess we are in now, without a pot to Pelissier in. When you are in a big hole, the first step to getting out of it is to stop digging.
Normally I’d ask Ms. Pelissier to work with me, but sadly, I don’t that there’s anything to work with here.
Neloa Jones will make a difference. You need to vote for her. Check out her website: http://neloaforcommissioner.org
