{{:fp:6a00d834517c2b69e200e54f285c3d8833-500wi.jpg|}} Well, these are truly sad times for the aging hippies that live in Orange County. Now that the evil satan otherwise known as George Bush is going to vacate the White House, and a new liberal savior has been anointed into his position, there is no longer any national cause for an Orange County liberal to crow about. After all, things like the “bailout” are better left to the business people of the world. That stuff is just too hard to comprehend. What's a hippie to do? Well, thankfully, there are some local issues that one can get behind to protest. And since these aging hippies now own homes (you know, the ones they used to protest about people owning back in the commune days) and have their own little slice of Capitalist generated (gasp!) heaven, they have a trifecta of things to protest against, any one of which is a threat to their way of life, liberty and the pursuit of free range organically grown pesticide free happiness. These issues are perfect for aging hippies to busy themselves with, because they are feel good causes and their protests will have no impact on the outcome of the issues. To wit: 1.The dreaded airport. The hippies have all come together to protest this evil idea. How dare Orange county allow anything that would draw economic investment in the county? In classic civil protester fashion, they are protesting something that has not even been decided, and which, when it is decided, will be decided regardless of their input. But, that won't keep these folks from making themselves feel better by putting up signs, forming coalitions (Cosmo thinks anything having to do with Coal should be banned, even Coalitions, since it leads to global whining) and going to meetings to make a loud protest. Since the Vietnam war is long gone, there really is a vacuum of valid things to protest against, so any “port” in a storm will do, even an air “port”. 2.The awful trash transfer station. Yes, folks, there are not enough testicles amongst the Orange County Board of Commissioners to site a new landfill within the county, so the next best thing is to ship it the heck away from here. The BOCC has done all of the correct moves, hiring a consultant to lay the blame on for picking a spot for this little station, listening to all the protesters whine on and on about how it isn't fair to site the station in their back yard, all the silly little arguments against putting it anywhere near them. Cosmo's favorite is the suggestion that we turn our trash into energy, by creating an incinerator station to burn the trash. As if any of the wankers protesting the transfer station would rather have an incinerator in their little farmette's view. Talk about your global warming! 3.The new evil commercial development at Southern Village, that little enclave south of town. Once again, the protesters are up in arms about ruining their little slice of perfection, as it were. My, oh my. For all the recent bleating about “Change” in the latest elections, it would appear that the Orange Progressives really do not like “change” after all. What a classic example of Orange Progressive think. It is going to be another long, warm winter in Orange County.
